The History of Tea
Tea is an ancient drink; these little green leaves have been brewing in kettles all over the world for centuries. According to legend, it began in China, as an accident. In 2737 BCE Emperor Shen Nong was journeying to a distant land, and he insisted that all water be boiled before it was drank. In the process of boiling his water one day, leaves from a camellia bush happened to blow into the pot. The drink took on a new aroma, and the Emperor was intrigued. He drank the steaming liquid and discovered how the tea leaves added a refreshing vigor to the water. And thus, tea was invented. At the beginning, it was primarily used as a medicinal drink, but over time it became a favorite everyday beverage. Tea is still a main crop of China, and is second only to water as the most popular drink in the world.
